Animals Endangered

Unfortunately there are endangered animals that are threatened with extinction in almost every part of this world. In the rest of this post I am going to introduce you to just a small portion of these animals endangered of extinction by mans encroachment on their natural habitat, and because of over hunting for their furs, and body parts.

Asiatic Wild Dog

The Asiatic Wild Dog also known as the Dhole is another one of those animals endangered by mans destruction of their natural habitat, and the over hunting of deer which is their main food source. The Asiatic Wild Dog can be found in India and China with their territory stretching as far south as Java. Currently it is estimated by biologists that there is only around 2,500 of these wild dogs left in their natural habitat.

These wild dogs are about the same size as the average medium sized household pet. The males are usually larger than the females and can reach up to 45 inches long and up to almost 45 pounds. As far as the color of their coats goes it varies from a cinnamon color all the way to a grayish brown and a yellowish color.

The Dhole like all dogs is a pack hunter, and one of the neat things about these interesting animals is that they are extremely vocal when hunting with each Dhole’s bark having a very distinct whistling sound that makes it very easy to identify each Dhole just by this sound.

Ocelot

The ocelot is a medium sized cat that can weigh as much as 24 pounds and can grow to a length of almost five feet long. These rare animals are usually found South and Central America including Mexico and parts of Arizona and Texas.

These endangered animals are threatened with extinction mainly due to deforestation and mans encroachment upon their natural habitat, and over hunting for their valuable hides. In addition to that Ocelots are known to have very small litters of kittens after a longer than usual gestation period for similar sized cats. Plus they also have a high kitten mortality rate that just adds to the problem.

Pygmy Chimpanzee

The pygmy Chimpanzee also known as the bonobo is one of those animals endangered by mans encroachment of their habitat and also because of over hunting of these primates for their meat and and their body parts that people of the region use as medicine and in religious rituals.

The pygmy chimpanzee was first discovered in 1933 as a distinct species. Even though they look very similar to a regular chimpanzee these apes are quite smaller in size and usually have longer hair, but unlike other chimpanzees the pygmy chimpanzee is only found in one remote lowland rain forest region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Because of it’s remote habitat and the constant civil unrest in that region of the world there is little known of this great ape.
